Feedstock Formulation

A quality Metal Injection Molding (MIM) product is achievable not only by using high quality raw material, it is also essential to have quality and robust process control. As a pioneer in the MIM industry, AMT pays great attention to the feedstock formulation during the mixing process as this is the first of the 4 basic MIM processes.

Mixing is the process where very fine metal powder are mixed with the thermoplastic (known as the binder) to form a homogeneous mixture of ingredients that is pelletized and directly fed into the injection molding machine. This pelletized powder-polymer mixture is known as the feedstock.

Great care is needed to govern the quality of the feedstock. Factors that determine the attributes of the feedstock include the quality powder characteristics, binder composition, powder to binder ratio and mixing and pelletization technique. Combining our more than 25 years of experience & knowledge on metal processing technology and investing in state-of–the-art equipment, AMT is capable of producing homogeneous feedstock using pre-alloyed powder as well as customized alloyed powder.

Quality of the feedstock is always our top concern. One of the critical factors to successful MIM production is to reliably deliver absolute batch-to-batch consistency in our feedstock. We ensure this by strict quality control of the density and viscosity of our proprietary feedstock.

With our proprietary feedstock formulation, AMT is constantly developing and increasing our material portfolio to better serve the needs and requirements of our customers and partners. At the same time, AMT also invests in resources to work closely with leading feedstock specialist suppliers for ready to use feedstock. We recognize that each has its own strength and weakness and with this option, we are able to utilize each option to its fullest advantages.
